I recently allowed myself the title 'Artist'.  I have been convinced for years...and years...(yeah, I'm old) that artists were 'them' and I wasn't one of 'them'.  Artists were cool. Artists were self assured.  Artists knew they were good.

Well, I certainly am not 'cool'. The cool kids at school eons ago drove that home.  I can pull off a sort of bohemian chic on a good hair day. But that is the best I can manage.

And I have never been self assured...although Therapy and margaritas help.

Lastly, knowing I was good.  Huh. Nope. The thought never really occurred to me. Friends and relatives like realistic art.  I don't do realistic.  I do frantic lines and dramatic colors.  My Mommy always just shook her head.  Husband too.  "That's nice, Bren. It is so colorful."  And I believed it...I wasn't 'good'...I was 'nice and colorful'.  So, I stopped painting. Stopped drawing.

But then the perfect storm happened and life got scrambled up...and the turbulence re awoke the sleeping line artist in me and the art started again without my permission or participation. Bill envelopes and note pads were filled with lines and textures.  One day, my husband said "I miss your art".  And I thought, so do I.  So here I am to revitalize it and work it.  Older, no more cooler, but ready to face criticism and learn.
